Consent to Treatment:
Purpose of Treatment:
Manual osteopathic treatment uses gentle, hands-on techniques to help release muscular tension and restore skeletal alignment to improve overall body function. Techniques may include soft tissue release, gentle stretching, joint mobilization, and subtle cranial or visceral work. Each treatment supports your body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate, encouraging better circulation, nervous system balance, and overall health and well-being.
Cupping Therapy:
Cupping and slide cupping techniques, using cold pressed castor oil to facilitate smooth gliding of the cups, may be incorporated into treatment sessions as supportive tools to help release muscular, fascial, and subcutaneous restrictions, allowing for a smoother and more effective process of realigning the skeletal system.
This method involves the use of cups applied to the skin with a controlled electronic suction device, that allows me to choose the precise suction needed for each patient and area of the body being treated to ensure both comfort and effectiveness.
By helping to soften and decompress soft tissue, cupping allows the body to adjust and realign more easily during osteopathic treatment, creating a more efficient and responsive process.
All cups and materials are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before and after each use. The skin is assessed prior to application to ensure it is safe to treat, and comfort levels are checked throughout the process.
It is common for cupping to leave temporary, painless marks or mild discolouration, which typically fade within a few days or a week.
A warm, damp towel is used afterward to gently remove the castor oil and provide soothing heat.
Privacy, Clothing, and Draping:
Your comfort and privacy are a priority during every treatment. Most osteopathic treatments are fully clothed. Dress warm and comfortable. If we decide to incorporate cupping techniques into our sessions, you may be asked to remove certain clothing to allow access to areas being treated.
You will always be informed in advance which areas need to be exposed and warm, comfortable blankets are used to cover areas not being treated.
Whenever clothing removal is involved, I will step out of the room while you change and verbal consent will be obtained before and during treatment whenever sensitive areas are addressed.
You are encouraged to communicate your comfort level at all times and may pause or stop treatment at any time, if you wish.
Sensitive Area Work:
Certain techniques, such as lymphatic drainage or fascial release, may involve work on or near sensitive regions of the body, such as: the chest, abdomen, groin, inner thigh, gluteal and pubic bone region.
The purpose of treatment in these areas may include:
Releasing intercostal tension and improving ribcage mobility and alignment
Supporting diaphragmatic motion and breathing mechanics
Restoring balance between the thoracic and pelvic diaphragms
Improving pelvic alignment and easing strain patterns through the hips, low back, and abdomen
Supporting lymphatic drainage, circulation, and fascial balance in surrounding tissues
Decreasing discomfort related to postural strain, scar tissue, or tension patterns in nearby structures
These techniques are performed strictly for clinically relevant purposes, never for any sexual or inappropriate reasons, and are conducted with full professionalism, clear communication, verbal consent, and draping for comfort and privacy.
Your comfort and consent are always prioritized, and you may request to modify, pause, or stop treatment at any time.
Potential Benefits and Reactions:
Most patients experience increased mobility, relaxation, and reduced pain or tension.
However, temporary effects may include mild soreness, fatigue, or emotional release. These are normal and usually resolve within 24–48 hours.
If you experience discomfort that persists or concerns you, please contact me promptly.
Confidentiality & Privacy:
Your personal health information is protected under PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).
All records are kept strictly confidential and will not be shared without your written consent, except when required by law.
Communication:
I may contact you by email or text for appointment reminders or treatment follow-ups. Sensitive health details will not be sent electronically.
